Water safety instructor, science teacher, and water safety educator Robert J. Kavas has a long history of advocating for the rights of the people and communities to clean water and a healthy ecosystem.
In his book The Worst of the Worst, published in 2007, Kavansos claimed that people of the United States are so used to drinking unsafe water that they haven’t even thought about the risks of drinking contaminated water, even though drinking contaminated and polluted water is an issue worldwide.
In a recent interview with Scientific American, Kavias revealed how his view of water safety has changed over time.
“Water is really the ultimate battleground for a lot of people,” Kavras said.
“A lot of times when you see the news or you read the news, the headlines say, ‘It’s the water.’
And it’s the same thing for people in the media.
It’s the media, the public, and they’re used to it.
The media is really, really used to seeing it.
But it’s not like water is the ultimate weapon.
It is, but it is the only weapon.”
Kavases views of water have changed over the years, with his last book The Water Wars (2009) focusing on the dangers of contamination in the oceans and other places.
Kaviases book is filled with statistics and statistics to support his claims about water contamination, including that water is a major cause of disease, and that drinking contaminated or polluted water kills up to 25,000 Americans a year.
In this interview, Kavyas, who now teaches at the University of California, San Diego, discussed how the science behind water safety education has changed in the past decade.
Why did you want to write The Worst?
[My wife] Ann, who is a water expert, told me, ‘Well, I’m a writer, too.
I like talking about science.
I don’t know what to say to you.
So, I just said, ‘I’m going to write about the worst water safety course ever.’
I have always been interested in that topic, and I wanted to make that as well.
That was the plan.
When I was a young person, I spent a lot time at my house with my parents and my siblings and my sister, and then I got married.
So I was very interested in the topic, so I wrote it.
I’m not a science expert.
So it was more like, I was reading science books, but I wasn’t really getting the answers.
What did you learn?
Well, the first time I read it, I thought, ‘Oh, I know a lot about this.
I know what it is.
I’ve seen it.
It seems to work.
I should be able to figure out the science.’
And I thought that was it.
After that, I continued reading it and I just kept getting better and better.
So that’s how I learned a lot from that.
I learned so much from that book.
And then I also started writing about the science and about what we do in water safety, which was a lot easier than writing about water and its dangers.
I wanted people to get that.
What kind of advice have you given students?
Well I’ve been in water for a long time, so people don’t really know much about water safety.
I have a lot to tell them.
I mean, the worst thing you can do is put water in your water bottle and leave it in your house.
That’s what happens, and people just don’t understand that.
But I think the water safety people do a great job of explaining things, and the scientists do a good job of telling them.
So if you are a water student, you have to be really smart about how you are going to do it.
You need to know the history of water, what’s going on in the water system, what kind of water is being used, what the chemistry is of the water, and so on.
That kind of stuff is really hard to figure in.
But that’s one of the things that I learned from my water safety class was that you have got to be careful.
You have to know that the water in the bottle, when you take it out of the bottle and put it in a bucket, is probably not going to have that much chlorine in it.
If it is, you are not going a good thing.
And I think you also have to think about the health effects.
What happens when you put water into a water bottle, and it has no chlorine?
What happens if there’s a little bit of chlorine in the mixture?
Then you can end up with some chemicals in there, so you’re not going very far.
So when you do that, you can actually end up killing a lot more people.
What about when you add water to water that has been boiled or sprayed?
Then, yes, you get some things that will kill you.
And so, when people put water, they’re going to get all sorts of things
