A career as an academic instructor doesn’t come without its challenges.
But if you want to land an academic job, you need to learn how to work as a professional.
The Globe and Mail’s Katie Farrar explores how to get through the academic and teaching job market without breaking the bank.
The following interview has been edited for clarity.
Katie FARRAR: I’ve never had an instructor job before.
But I’m not alone.
For many, the idea of getting a job as an instructor is something they’d like to do, even if they don’t actually have an actual teaching credential.
But for many, there’s also a bit of a disconnect between what they’re learning and what they actually want to do.
What are the most important steps you need in order to get started?
If you’re a teacher, you want the most amount of practice you can get before you start your first class.
You’re basically looking for the best way to make your students learn.
But you’re also looking for a career path that’s really sustainable.
How to learn as a professor without getting a “aha” job?
First off, you should learn the teaching process as much as possible, because it’s the single most important part of your job.
That includes what to wear, what to talk about, what questions to ask, how to write papers, how you should conduct research, and so on.
But that’s the easy part, right?
It’s all about getting the most practice.
So how do you get started learning as a teacher?
I’ve always wanted to get a full-time job as a tutor, but it’s a lot of work and I’ve been pretty miserable about it.
But it’s also not the most exciting career.
First of all, you have to get your first job.
Then you have the time to build up your résumé, and you also have to develop your skills.
I think a lot people want to learn the way they’re going to be taught.
And that’s great, but at the same time, you’re not actually learning anything that you can actually teach, you know?
You’re learning a little bit of information that you know you can’t use, and that can be used by a future employer to say, “Hey, you’ve got that skill, let’s hire you.”
The problem is, it’s just not going to happen, because there’s no way to do that, and even if you did, that would probably be one of the biggest mistakes you could make.
You know, I got a job in a library and it was really hard.
But at the end of the day, I think it was a good job.
It was the best job I ever had.
It taught me a lot about the profession, about the way I think about teaching, and about the role I’m going to play in the future of the profession.
You don’t really need to become an instructor to learn about teaching.
You could become a tutor.
You just need to figure out how to do it yourself.
And there are some skills you don’t need.
You should just learn as much about teaching as you can.
For me, I would probably take courses in a traditional classroom setting.
For instance, I studied English, but I’m really into reading.
I’m a reader, so I might take courses online or in a bookstore, but for the most part, I’m just going to sit in my classroom and read.
There’s no real advantage to learning as an “aha!” instructor.
In fact, if you’re just doing it for the sake of doing it, you don
